NEC announced on December 5 that it has developed 55nm semiconductor production technology, and that mass production of chipsets using this technology is expected to start towards the end of 2007. The company said that these chips will be used in devices such as game consoles, mobile phones, and PDAs. NEC currently uses 90nm technology in chip production, and it recently announced that it would cooperate with Toshiba for the development of 45nm technology.
